🏆 Who's Recruiting: The 17 Agencies

According to the Workforce Solutions Capital Area event page, these agencies are scheduled to attend:

  • Office of the Governor
  • Railroad Commission of Texas
  • Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission
  • Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
  • Texas Department of Agriculture
  • Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Gregory S. Coleman Unit
  • Texas Department of Family and Protective Services
  • Texas Department of Insurance
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation
  • Texas Juvenile Justice Department
  • Texas Medical Board
  • Texas Military Department
  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
  • Texas Veteran Leadership Program
  • Texas Veterans Commission (HR)
  • Texas Water Development Board
  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)

That spread is the point. A single morning covers regulators, field agencies, public safety, social services and the governor's own office. Workforce Solutions says it wants veterans, transitioning service members, military spouses, recent graduates and career changers in particular, but nobody is turned away.

No headcount has been announced, and the event page does not list specific openings by agency. Treat it as a chance to meet the people who do the hiring, learn which postings are live, and find out how each agency's application process works.

💼 What State Work Looks Like in Austin

State jobs here are not just desk jobs downtown near the Capitol. The agencies on this list hire engineers and inspectors, caseworkers and investigators, environmental scientists and accountants, IT staff, administrative assistants, park staff and correctional officers. Some roles are based in Austin; others are posted around the state, so ask where the job actually reports.

Recruiters can also explain how the state's application system and salary schedules work, which helps if you have only ever applied to private employers. Ask about benefits, retirement and training, and get a straight answer on how long the hiring process usually takes.

📋 How to Show Up Ready

  • Register first. Workforce Solutions asks attendees to sign up through its online form.
  • Bring printed resumes. Plan on several copies; 17 agencies means a lot of tables.
  • Spell out your experience. State applications reward detail, so list dates, duties and any licenses or certifications.
  • Veterans: bring your DD-214 information and ask each agency about veteran hiring preference.
  • Arrive early. The fair runs only until noon.

Veterans should also mark Thursday, November 5. That is the Hiring Red, White & You! veterans job fair at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex in East Austin. Different event, different venue, different focus.
