A Veterans Hiring Event With a Public Second Act

Hiring Red, White & You! is a statewide veterans hiring program, with partners including the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas Veterans Commission and local workforce boards around the state. Austin's edition is run by Workforce Solutions Capital Area, the public workforce board for Austin and Travis County, and this is its 15th year.

The setup is what makes it worth circling. From 10 to 11 a.m., veterans, people transitioning out of the military and military spouses get priority service, which means shorter lines and recruiters who haven't yet talked to two hundred people. At 11 a.m. the event opens to anyone looking for work, so a civilian job seeker can treat it as a general job fair for the back two hours.

⚠️ Read This Before You Go

  • Timing matters. If you're not a veteran, service member or military spouse, plan to arrive at 11 a.m. The first hour is for the military community.
  • No employer list yet. The organizer has not published which companies will be in the room or how many openings they're bringing. Don't count on a specific employer until it's announced.
  • Register ahead. Sign-up is free through the official registration page.

📋 How to Show Up Ready

Workforce Solutions asks for an updated resume and professional clothes. If your resume still reads like an evaluation report, fix that before November. Swap ranks and acronyms for plain civilian terms: how many people you led, what equipment or budget you were responsible for, and what clearance you hold if it's still active. The board's career centers offer free resume and interview help ahead of the event, and staff answer questions at 512-381-5100.

Parking at the Millennium complex is free, and the venue sits on a CapMetro bus line, so getting there from downtown, Mueller or anywhere along the line doesn't require a car.

🔎 Where to Aim Before November 5

Military experience maps cleanly onto a lot of what Austin hires for year-round: logistics and supply, IT and cybersecurity, facilities maintenance, security, public safety and health care. Spend some time before the fair seeing who's posting in those lanes so you can walk up to a table with a specific role in mind instead of a general pitch.
